THE Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Cebu City Chapter has offered a P50,000 reward to anyone who can give information that will lead to the arrest of the shooter and other persons responsible for the shooting of lawyer Karen Quiñanola-Gonzales.

Gonzales was ambushed Thursday night, September 1, 2022, on Hernan Cortes in Barangay Banilad, Mandaue City. She was with her 19-year-old son when attacked by still unidentified gunmen.

Gonzales is head of the Business and Marketing Department of the Cebu Port Authority, according to Mandaue City police. She and her son were rushed to a hospital after the ambush Thursday night.

In a statement, the IBP Cebu City Chapter said the people “should not allow shooting incidents to be a common fare in the news.”

“September is the rule of law month. But today has left us in utter shock and disbelief, as there is yet again, another attack against a member of the legal profession,” it said.

It called on “all law abiding, peace loving, concerned and responsible citizens to help us find and identify the perpetrator/s of this senseless crime,” by offering by P50,000 reward.

“The members of our chapter's security committee will actively take part in the investigation that will be conducted by law enforcement authorities,” it added.

The IBP Cebu City also called for the “swift delivery of justice against all those who do harm and destroy the common good.”

“We enjoin everyone to work together with us to protect the rights of every person and secure the safety of our community. When we allow, by our inaction or apathy, for violence to flourish, we dim the future of our country. Let us cast the light of truth and justice so that the rule of law will prevail!” it said. (LMY)
