4,932 students get educational aid

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) released some P14.3 million in educational assistance to 4,932 students on Saturday, September 3, in Zamboanga Peninsula.

Those who received Saturday, September 3, were the third batch of recipients of DSWD’s educational assistance.

The DSWD has set six Saturdays to release the educational assistance to the recipients that started on August 20 and are set to be completed on September 24.

Data posted Sunday, September 4, by the DSWD regional office on its Facebook page showed that 1,482 of the 4,932 beneficiaries who received educational assistance are from Zamboanga City. The fund that was released totaled P4.5 million.

The number of recipients and the amount of funds released in other areas of the region are as follows: 540 students, P1.4 million in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay; 376 beneficiaries, P813,000 in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte; 1,282 beneficiaries, P3.7 million in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte; 822 recipients, P2.5 million in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; and 430 recipients, P1.2 million in Isabela City, Basilan.

Of the 4,932 total recipients, they comprised the following: college, 2,577; senior high school, 526; high school, 634; and, elementary, 1,195.

The educational assistance of the DSWD for indigent students will accommodate up to three children per family -- P1,000 for elementary students, P2,000 for high school students, P3,000 for senior high school students and P4,000 for college and vocational course students. (SunStar Zamboanga)
