SOME 33 former rebels associated with the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) who have returned to the government fold have engaged in a livelihood enterprise dubbed the “Sabor Layaw” Chicken Inasal made of organically raised free-range chickens.

Ricky Guzon, the project manager of the Kapatiran Farm Workers Association (Kafawa) who are from the towns of La Castellana, Binalbagan, Moises Padilla and Isabela as well as Himamaylan City organized themselves to begin this business venture that will challenge their business sense.

Kafawa is a Department of Labor and Employment-registered organization

Guzon said they were profiled as former members of RPA-ABB and are mainstreaming in society under the provision of institutional transformation of the Peace Agreement.

The fund of the project is from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity.

The provincial government of Negros Occidental also provided the needed support to the project such as chicks, incubator, veterinary assistance, and marketing assistance.

The project will help promote the Negros Native Chicken Production where raising chicken is one of the thrusts of the province in ensuring food security.

The group has a small farm of native chickens for the needed supply of the project.

The concept of the product is to offer the consumers a brand of lechon manok that has a unique taste, organically raised and much healthier compared to 28 days grown chicken.

It is usually harvested in the farm for three to four months while the method of cooking is gas rotisserie oven style.

The chicken is roasted for 40 minutes to maintain its juicy meat texture and brown appearance with a price ranging from P395 to P430 depending on the size.

“We also offer native dressed chicken and eggs of native chicken,” Guzon said.

They will open its first Kafawa Lechon Manok Station: "Sabor Layaw" soft opening on September 8, 2020, 10AM at MACILS Building in front of Camella Subdivision Entrance at Purok Pine Tree in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City.

Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process Susana Marcaida is expected to grace the opening of "Sabor Layaw."
