TWO provinces in Davao Region were listed among the provinces outside of Luzon with one of the highest positivity rates of Covid-19, according to Octa Research data as of September 3, 2022.

Data posted by Octa research fellow Dr. Guido David on Twitter shows that the positivity rate of Davao del Norte increased from 9.6 percent on August 27, 2022 to 10.4 percent as of September 3 while Davao del Sur’s rate remained steady at 13.2 percent during the same period.

Davao del Norte has 98 active cases as of September 5 based on the province’s Covid-19 Factoid. Majority of it comes from Tagum City with 47 cases, 20 cases from Panabo City, and ten from the Municipality of Carmen. The rest of the municipalities have less than ten cases.

Based on the Department of Health’s (DOH) Covid-19 Tracker, Davao del Sur has 127 new cases in the last 14 days from the date of onset of illness, while Davao del Norte has 195.

Davao del Sur is also listed by Octa Research as one of the provinces with the most new cases as of September 6, with 47 confirmed cases out of 498 nationwide.

Region-wide, DOH in Davao Region recorded 782 new cases from the period of August 29 to September 4, which is 2.7 percent lower than the cases reported from August 22 to 28. Thirteen of it, or 1.7 percent, are new severe and critical cases.

Because of this, healthcare utilization in the region is at 50.9 percent for non-ICU admission, specifically, 373 out of 733 non-ICU beds are occupied. While occupancy for ICU is at 62.7 percent or 96 out 153 ICU beds.

“Only 91 admissions out of 550 of Covid-19 admissions are severe and critical. Out of the 91, only 37, or 6.73% of the total admissions, are confirmed cases, while 54 are probable and suspects,” DOH-Davao said.

Meanwhile, Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson Dr. Michelle Schlosser said on Wednesday, September 9, that there is a decrease in the trend of Covid-19 cases in the city.

“Kato atong ginakahadlukan nga pag taas sa cases because of Kadayawan, we have already surpoassed that. Ang atoa napud ginabantayan og maayo karon is atong mga face-to-face (F2F) classes (We have already surpassed the period where we anticipated an increase of cases because of the Kadayawan. What we are monitoring closely right now are the F2F classes),” Schlosser said during a radio interview.

She said the city is averaging ten percent positivity rate since three days ago after the city logged approximately 15 percent positivity rate two weeks after the Kadayawan Festival celebration on August 20 and 21. ICM
