THE Bureau of Customs, Cebu Port, reported that they have already surpassed its collection target for the first half of this year and recognized the Top 10 Importers for 2021 during its 136th Founding Anniversary last August 26, 2022.

Among the awardees is the Mandaue City-based Joyland Industries Corporation, in 9th place on the list of top importers. The company paid a total of P474, 390, 060 in taxes for 2021 alone.

In his message during the ceremony, Lawyer Charlito Martin Mendoza, acting District Collector of the Port of Cebu, said he was elated with what the awardees had achieved despite the challenges caused by the pandemic, which were also worsened by the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

The top ten importers for 2021 are:

Filoil Logistics Corporation (P5.4 billion)

Seaoil Philippines (P1.6 billion)

Ecossential Foods Corporation (750.3 million)

Therma Visayas Inc. (P730.9 million)

Steelasia Manufacturing Corporation (721.9 million)

AD Gothong Manufacturing (P706.3 million)

Kepco SPC Power Corporation (P660.4 million)

National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (P594.8 million)

Joyland Industries Corporation (P474.3 million)

Cebu Energy Development Corporation (P467.9 million)

For the first half of this year, from January to July, the BOC port of Cebu has already earned over P4 billion. Mendoza said they had constantly been able to surpass their collection targets because of their personnel's hard work and the different stakeholders' cooperation.

“We addressed the immediate needs of our stakeholders, provided the government coffers much-needed revenues to sustain the fight against the pandemic, and simultaneously made headway in transformative actions that will be the bedrock for future recovery programs post-pandemic,” said Mendoza during the gathering.

It is for this reason that the BOC Port of Cebu is also giving back by handing recognitions to their Top 10 partners, Mendoza added.

“After grueling years of the pandemic, tonight is our first occasion to celebrate after Typhoon Odette, which was another blow, not just to the Port of Cebu, but to all of Cebu,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza thanked the top importers for contributing much to the steady growth of the port of Cebu in revenue collection every year.

“In truth, the accomplishments we showcased have been worked on and built on for the past years, with no let up on the commitment and no rest for the actions needed to move reforms and good governance transformation forward”, said Mendoza.

He cited the interception and seizure of over 300 smuggled shipments over the past three years and the resolution of 327 seizure cases as among his accomplishments.

Earlier, BOC-Cebu has conferred the Gold Trailblazer Award in the initiation and compliance stages of the Performance Governance System and successfully hurled the proficiency stage.

Mendoza said that in 2020 and 2021, the subports of Dumaguete and Mactan also obtained the ISO certification.

Just recently, the district port passed the final external audit for the same certification, making the Port of Cebu the first customs collection district in the country to have its main port and all subports ISO-certified.

“We celebrate and honor the indomitable human spirit of the Cebuanos to rise, recover and overcome, '' he said.

Mendoza told the stakeholders during the event that what they have accomplished together now serves as fuel to accelerate transformation.

The Port of Cebu shall strive to accelerate responsive transformation with a focus on efficient revenue collection, the continuing evolution of our systems processes to be responsive to our stakeholders, and upskilling ourselves to be empowered by technological advancements, Mendoza said.
