A STRONG wind could be the possible cause of the explosion of four electrical transformers on MC Briones St. in Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City that injured three people on Friday afternoon, September 9, 2022.

Karlo Cabahug, head of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO) research and planning division, told SunStar Cebu on Friday that they received reports that there had been a whirlwind (alimpos) that hit the area before the incident happened.

Cabahug said the strong wind led the wirings of the transformers to loosen, causing the explosion past 1 p.m. Friday.

The incident injured three individuals, including a 16-year-old boy. They were rushed to Mandaue City Hospital for treatment.

Cabahug said the three were near the area when the explosion happened.

Cabahug said the two victims got minor burns on their feet, and the other one who got burns on both his feet and hands was transferred to a private hospital within the city.

All the victims are in stable condition, said Cabahug.

In a social media post, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said he went to visit the victims in Mandaue City Hospital.

He said he decided to transfer the victim who had a more serious injury to a private hospital so he could be given extra care by a specialist.

He asked for prayers for the safety especially of the responders from any disasters.

Following what happened, Cabahug also reminded people, especially workers from the electrical field, to prioritize safety in any of their operations. (HIC)
