A TOTAL of 56 information officers (IOs) from different ministries and offices in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) have undergone a five-day training workshop on communication advocacy and best practices for documentation.

The Social Development Fund-Special Project Management Office (SDF-PMO), headed by Engineer Mohajirin Ali, organized the training held from September 5 to 9 in General Santos City.

Judy Giguiento, information specialist, said Sunday, September 11, that provision of technical know-how and appreciation of document best practices in the implementation of programs, projects and activities (PPAs) were part of the activity's prime objectives.

Giguiento said IOs play an important role in informing the public about what is happening in the Barmm that affects the communities in the region.

“With all the good accomplishments of Barmm, your role is to expose and showcase such facts and true progress in the region by informing the public through writing,” said Giguiento, who is also one of the resource speakers of the training workshop.

Melanie Indar, SDF-PMO for coordination, said obtaining "right and accurate information" is an important duty of IOs since they provide public awareness using facts that will serve as basis for data documentation.

“This kind of training is essential because if our delivered services and programs are properly documented, the preceding projects would be enhanced and definitely could initiate room for improvement," said one of the participants, Zubair Guiaman of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education.

Among the highlights of the discussions during the workshop include revisiting communication principles, elements, barriers, citizen journalism, writing skills, art and essence of dialogue, non-violent communication, photojournalism, and documentation of best practices. (SunStar Zamboanga)
