6 face raps for ‘Araw ng Digos’ riot

SIX individuals who reportedly started a riot during a party in Digos City, Davao del Sur were arrested after facing charges.

The riot, which happened on Thursday evening, September 8, was caught on camera and went viral on social media.

According to the video, a group of men were seen throwing chairs and tables, and punching each other.

In a Facebook post, the Digos City Police Office (DCPO) said the suspects were arrested during a celebration for the Araw ng Digos, which culminated during that night.

The arrested individuals are facing charges for "Alarm and Scandal" in accordance with the Revised Penal Code. They are also facing charges for direct assault and disobedience to police authority.

In a report from GMA's One Mindanao, DCPO Chief Hamlet Lerios said the commotion interrupted the concert, which was almost over.

Lerios said their police immediately responded to the incident.

He said one of the suspects punched a concert goer who kissed the former's girlfriend, who was performing during the event.

The celebration of the city's 22nd founding anniversary was also hounded with controversies.

DCPO filed charges against a transwoman who was caught on video dancing half-naked in a concert in the city on Monday, September 5, 2022.

The police filed charges for violating Article 200 of Revised Penal Code or 'Grave Scandal for performing a highly scandalous act'.
