CITY OF SAN FERNANDO Traders and vendors here started going back to their designated stalls at the newly-rehabilitated public market which was rebranded to City Market Plaza after temporarily doing business for some time in makeshift stores in downtown San Fernando.

City Mayor Vilma Caluag, together with City Administrator Nelson Lingat, City Market Operations Division head Mila Rivera, CMOD Focal person Roy Pasumbal, City Focal Person for Engineering, Building and Public Works Architect John Chu, and City Engineer's Office led the inspection of the ingress of vendors scheduled on Monday, September 12 and until September 15, 2022.

The city government will also conduct clearing operations on September 16 to 17 at the market's surroundings prior to its soft-opening on September 18.

On September 9, Caluag held a dialogue with vendors who will occupy the stalls of the rehabilitated P250 million City Market Plaza.

She discussed the guidelines for the four-day ingress and preparations for the soft-opening of the market, which was inaugurated and blessed on May 30, 2022 by the past administration of Mayor Edwin Santiago.

Caluag assured that the market, designed like a butterfly with two wings and a rib plus open spaces, to be flood-free and business-friendly.

The mayor said the public market is safe because it passed all the building requirements and obtained necessary permits from concerned agencies like the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Caluag called for the vendors’ cooperation during the entire process and said the local government is open to any queries and suggestions.

She even expressed hopes for a safe and smooth market experience for both vendors and consumers.

To boost public convenience, the New Public Market in Del Pilar including the market's entrance, sidewalks, and stalls were cleaned.

Public and private sector groups are monitoring the premises of the market.
