CAGAYAN de Oro has passed the initial screening for this year's search for Galing Pook Awards, Head of the Local School Board Dr. Alice Anghay announced during the ManCom meeting earlier this week.
"We passed the initial screening, and so we are included in the finalist for the search," Anghay said.
According to the head of the Local School Board, following the screening is the validation of the Cagayan de Oro's program application, which is focused on education.
The validation, which is set to be conducted on September 22 to 25, will have the evaluators interview personnel from offices concerned with education direction. These include the Local School Board, City Scholarship Office, Cagayan de Oro Technical Vocational Institute, City Social Welfare and Development, among others.
"The activity is spearheaded by the City Mayor's Office. Although, we can practically say that for this year's search, the collaborative efforts of our Former Mayor Oscar Moreno and our now Mayor Rolando 'Klarex' Uy will also be given focus," Anghay said.
Anghay shared that as part of their preparation for the upcoming validation, they are gathering all the performance indicators, such as the participation rate and graduation rate, from the Department of Education (DepEd) from 2013 to 2022.
The head of the Local School Board also expressed her confidence that Cagayan de Oro will once again be an awardee of the Galing Pook Awards.
"Yes, no doubt. Because there are a lot of initiatives that the city has done in terms of education that we can say have improved a lot in the development of education in the city," Anghay said.
In 2021, Cagayan de Oro bagged its third Galing Pook award with its entry "Health is Worth Fighting For, Cagayan de Oro Health Journey," which showed the effort, development, and management of the health system in the city during the pandemic. (SunStar Philippines)
