AT least 229 applicants were reportedly hired-on-the-spot during the “PESO Lapu-Lapu -- The Outlets Job Fair” in Lapu-Lapu City Friday, September 16, 2022.

The hired applicants will fill 7.61 percent of the 3,008 job positions offered by 18 participating companies during the job fair, according to Lapu-Lapu City Public Information Officer Mark Anthony Bautista.

Around 4,500 applicants reportedly flocked to the job fair.

Those who were not hired-on-the-spot had to undergo further screening and final interview.

The participating companies include Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) locators, business process outsourcing (BPO), supermarkets, hospitals, food companies and manpower agencies.

This was the third job fair conducted in the city this year, an initiative of the city government led by Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), and in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and MEPZ 2, among others.

During the job fair, Chan said there are about 200 companies inside MEPZ and he is set to invite other companies to join the next job fair in the coming fiesta celebration this November.

“Gipaningkamutan sa Chan administration, kutob sa among mahimo, mao ning saad namo kaninyo, isip among campaign promise, nga gustoon namo nga matag pamilya mo-asenso ug molambo ang ilang panginabuhi,” said the mayor.

(The Chan administration is trying, as much as we can, to fulfill our campaign promise for every family to progress and improve their livelihood).

Apart from the job fair itself, Bautista said other government agencies such as the Social Security System also offered free registration to incoming members and entertain queries.

He further said that a manpower training and Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination shots were also offered to the hired applicants upon the request of their employers.

DOLE earlier announced that hired applicants can avail of free Reverse Transcription–Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test at the regional office in Cebu City. (MKG)
