THE province of Bohol bagged the most awards during the 2022 Grand Nutrition Awards.
The awarding ceremony was held at the Summit Galleria Hotel on General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City on Friday, September 16, 2022, as one of the highlights of the 17th Regional Congress of Nutrition Action Officers (NAOs).
Dr. Parolita Mission, program coordinator of the National Nutrition Council in Central Visayas (NNC 7), said the awarding ceremony was initiated in 1974 to recognize the efforts of local chief executives and nutrition workers in implementing their nutrition programs and since then the program has become a yearly activity.
Bohol garnered 14 awards, including two Green Banner Seal of Compliance (GBSC) awards for the municipalities of Balilihan and Garcia Hernandez, followed by Negros Oriental with 12 awards, and Cebu with seven awards.
Balilihan Mayor Maria Pureza Chatto shared their best practices prioritizing the nutritional needs of its constituents, particularly those in the rural areas, through the efforts of the Municipal Nutrition Committee's Countryside Action Program.
Enriqueto Acenas, Regional Outstanding Municipal Nutrition Action Officer, talked about Garcia Hernandez's Municipal Nutrition Committee's banner program, a joint program with the Philippine Mining Corporation offering barangay feeding activities and free medical and dental clinics.
Mission said this year's awarding was significant since this was the first time after two years that the ceremony was physically held.
It was also the first time they had given the GBSC awards to the local government units (LGUs) that achieved at least 85 percent overall accomplishment rating evaluated through six Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) Pro dimensions: vision and mission, nutrition law and policies, governance and organization structure, local nutrition committee management functions, nutrition interventions and services, and nutritional status.
