A 29-year-old died after being buried in a "treasure's pit" in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental on Monday, September 19.

In a situation report provided by the Governor Generoso Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) to SunStar Davao, the body was found at Tubing, Brgy. Poblacion around 10 a.m.

The victim's body, identified as Romeo Delcampo Jr., was found around 10 a.m. after receiving a report that he was trapped in an excavated treasure pit about 30 feet deep.

During the excavation, the tunnel partially collapsed trapping the victim inside. Simultaneously, their water pump malfunctioned causing the water level to rise and eventually drowning Delcampo.

The MDRRMO, in coordination with the Bureau of Fire Protection, and Gov. Generoso Police Station responded to the site.

Rescuers tried to help the victim, but he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

In a Facebook post, MDRRMO reminded the public to be careful in conducting such activities. RGL
