DTI capacitates young entrepreneurs, upland farmers with skills training

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO The Department of Trade and Industry in Central recently conducted an online course and training to keep micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs, upland farmers and even indigenous peoples on track of innovative information, skills, and knowledge needed to survive, bounce back and pivot from the financial impact brought by the pandemic.

DTI Regional Director Leonila Baluyut said a total of 46 youth entrepreneurs in Central Luzon composed of 30 females and 16 males, graduated from the Kapatid Mentor Micro Entrepreneurs – Money Market Encounter (KMME-MME) of the agency after completing a total of 10 online modules plus coaching sessions.

Prior to their graduation, the young entrepreneurs from the seven provinces of Central Luzon presented their respective business improvement plans before a panel composed of representatives from the government, banking and financial sector, online market platforms, and mentors from the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship.

Themed “KMME Program in the New Normal”, the project is now on its third year with the recent graduates as the second batch for 2022.

Meanwhile, in Bamban town in Tarlac province, the DTI conducted a capacity building training for upland farmers and Aetas who are members of Milamu Lamu Inc. located in barangay San Martin that is engaged in papaya, banana, turmeric, ginger, white yam and citronella production.

The training, the DTI said, will help the beneficiaries in developing a new and sustainable source of income out of their harvests, increase the production of their crops, and introduce new products that would bring about investments and generate employment and income.
