THE law finally caught up with a man accused of robbing and killing a teacher in Leyte Province.

The accused, 40-year-old Montre Buit Respecia, alias Karla Belandres Guardiana, a native of Barangay Poblacion, Mahaplag town in Leyte Province, was in Cebu all along.

Major Philip John Libres, chief of the Opao Police Station in Mandaue City, served the arrest warrant with no recommended bail issued by Judge Clinton Nuevo of Regional Trial Court 8 in Baybay Leyte on July 2011 against him in Barangay Poblacion Ward 1 in the southern town of Minglanilla at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Respecia is facing a case for robbery with homicide.

The suspect was traced through a photo of Minglanilla church choir, of which he was one of the members, uploaded on Facebook.

Despite using a different name when he joined the choir, Respecia's face was still recognized in the photo.

It was learned that the suspect, who was then a high school student, was having a drinking session with his teacher in 2009 until it reached to a point wherein the former killed the latter and took his things away.

The suspect and the victim were reportedly both homosexuals.

Respecia left and went into hiding in Cebu, where he first lived in Barangay T. Padila in Cebu City and later transferred to Barangay Poblacion Ward 1 in Minglanilla.

A team from Opao Police Station 5, along with the Mahaplag police personnel in Leyte, served the warrant that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The suspect is temporarily detained at the Opao Police Station, while the necessary documents are being prepared to bring him back to Mahaplag. (BBT, PJB, TPT)
