A MOTORCYLE rider died after he was ran over by a 10-wheeler truck in Murcia town, Negros Occidental on Wednesday, September 21.

Police Corporal Virgil Sedimo, traffic investigator of Murcia Municipal Police Station, identified the fatality as Andrie Ditching, 21, of the town’s Barangay Blumentritt.

Investigation showed that Ditching was tailing two trucks loaded with sugarcane along the highway of the barangay when he tried to overtake them.

Seeing a parked car from a distance, Ditching decided to maneuver back to his lane, Sedimo said.

“On the process, he hit a tow bar which was connected to the truck driven by Larry Salamatin, 58, of Silay City, that was being pulled by another truck driven by Espiridon Albancis, 58, of Murcia town,” he said.

Sedimo added that Ditching was then ran over by the truck that was being pulled.

The victim probably failed to notice the tow bar as he was allegedly speeding, he said.

The traffic investigator added that Ditching was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred.

He died upon arrival at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

Sedimo said that both truck drivers are now under police custody, pending a possible settlement with the victim’s family, or the filing of charges.
