IDP Philippines and Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (Nolitc) launched the new International English Language Testing System (IELTS) on computer shared laboratory yesterday, September 22.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, II, Mr. Jose Miguel Habana IDP Country Director and Dr. Christina Orbecido, Vocational School Administrator of Nolitc led the launching.

Situated at the Nolitc compound, the Shared Lab in Bacolod City will provide Negrenses and Ilonggos an access to the world's leading high-stakes English language proficiency test for study, work, and migration,

It will also be a step closer to achieving their life goals abroad.

“Bacolod has always been a key city for IELTS, as it is home to many people who aspire to work, study, or migrate abroad. We started administering the test here six years ago and saw the number of test takers increase year-on-year,” Habana said.

Last year, over 300 Negrenses took the IELTS test with IDP.

IELTS is the only high stakes test that offers paper, computer, and online options.

Through Computer-delivered IELTS, we get to use technology to improve our customers' experience.

Some of the benefits of IELTS is that the test-takers could expect faster results which is only in a span of three days, they are given the feature to type on a computer instead of writing on paper and are allowed to complete the entire test in only one day.

Computer Delivered IELTS uses both human testing staff and digital technology for optimum experience; Our approach is human and empathetic - overlaid with technology - to empower test takers to achieve the result they want.

IELTS is a globally recognized way to prove English proficiency with three million tests each year and recognized by 11,000 organizations.

“We have more than 1,500 IELTS test locations across 56 countries, including more than 280 computer-delivered IELTS centers - and now we are adding one here in this beautiful city of Bacolod,” Habana said.

With the help of Nolitc, IELTS would like to do its best to empower its customers to achieve their best score, he also said.

IDP plans to continue to expand our IELTS testing footprint as well as our study abroad services around the Philippines.

Among its goals is that in the next few years, it will bring IDP and IELTS closer to the market by expanding its footprint in all key cities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

IDP changed the English testing industry when we launched IELTS more than 30 years ago, and continue to lead the sector today.

For his part, Lacson said, “the world's largely used English language proficiency test for study, work and migration, the testing results of the International English Language Testing System or IELTS, are recognized and accepted by thousands of organizations in most countries is now here in the province.”

He said millions of these tests are being administered each year, and as with most exams, IELTS is usually taken on paper.

However, with the rising advocacy to go paperless, and the need for digitalization, computer-based exams became necessary, Lacson noted.

The governor stressed that this development, which makes IELTS more accessible, will greatly aid Negrenses, and those from nearby provinces, in the pursuit of their study, work, or migration goals.

Education remains to be our top priority. We will continue to expand our education related programs to make it more inclusive and accessible to all sectors, particularly the underprivileged, Lacson emphasized.

Meanwhile, Orbicido said, the shared IELTS laboratory of Nolitc and IDP is accessible, collaborative and transformational.

The IELTS examination is set on Sunday, September 24.*
