THE National Capital Region (NCR) is likely to see as many as 2,000 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases per day come October.

This was the projection of the independent Octa Research, citing the continued rise in the Covid-19 indicators over the past week.

"It looks like the NCR will exceed 2,000 cases per day by the start of October," said Octa fellow Dr. Guido David in a social media post.

At present, the seven-day average of new cases in NCR is up to 1,128.

The case growth rate stood at 28 percent, which is higher compared to the 18 percent the previous week.

He noted how the positivity rate also rose to 17.5 percent as of September 21, from 14.3 percent on September 14.

David said the present positivity rate has matched the previous peak on August 5.

"It is now likely that this current resurgence will see higher positivity rates over the next weeks," said David.

David said the reproduction number in the NCR also increased to 1.26 (September 19).

This is up from only 1.19 as of September 12, based on Octa data.

Last week, the Department of Health (DOH) said that Metro Manila is back to "moderate" risk classification.

This comes after the DOH noted the slight uptick in cases in the recent days in Metro Manila. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
