Angeles City inaugurates new evacuation facility

ANGELES CITY The city government inaugurated its newly-improved main evacuation center in Barangay Mining on September 22.

The inauguration was personally led by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., with Office for Civil Defense Region III Director Cesar Idio, Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo "Jon" Lazatin II, Department of the Interior and Local Government Angeles City Director Darwin David, Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting, City Councilor Marino Bañola, Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rudy Simeon, and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Edna Duaso.

“One of our inauguration promises is to safeguard our kababayans from man-made disasters and calamities. We want to ensure their safety, that is why we aim for our city to be disaster-resilient and ready,” Lazatin said.

Inside the improved center are kitchen, mess hall, lactating area, playing room, prayer area, and a clinic with readily available medicines.

According to Simeon, modular tents will be installed in the center with the help of the city Engineer’s Office headed by Donato Dizon.

“This will serve as partition, for the privacy of our kababayans, in case the center will be used in the event of calamities,” Simeon said.

Aside from the main evacuation center in Mining, the city also has alternate evacuation sites: the covered courts at Capaya 2, Sta. Trinidad, Lourdes North West, Amsic and Anunas.

Simeon thanked the administration of Lazatin for giving priority to the disaster mitigation and preparedness plan of the city against emergencies and natural calamities.

To recall, a series of ocular inspections and preparations were made prior to the formal opening by Dizon, Simeon, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas, Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, Gender and Development Officer Mina Cabiles, Angeles City Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office Head Irish Bonus-Llego, and Angeles City Tourism Auxiliary Head Michael Lising to ensure that everything needed for the newly-improved facility are all in place.

Present also during the opening are Cong. Jon’s Chief-of-Staff Jannie Sarmiento, Angeles City Fire Director FSupt. Errick Derro, PLtCol. Deonido Maniago Jr. of Angeles City Police Office, City Health Officer Dr. Verona Guevarra, Chrysalene Cunanan of Quality Management System, Liga ng mga Barangay Angeles City President Jeremias Alejandrino, and Barangay Mining Captain Lester Hernandez.
