2 fishermen nabbed for illegal fishing

AUTHORITIES have arrested two fishermen for illegal fishing off the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday, September 25, 2022.

Police Colonel Eduard Mallo, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified the arrested fishermen as Zalil Salicala Saililla, 40, and Hamsi Hussin Saililla, 20, both residents of Purok 1 in Poblacion village, Payao.

Mallo said that the two fishermen were arrested around 5:40 p.m. Saturday, September 24, at the seawater of Poblacion, Payao.

Mallo said that the two fishermen were caught in flagrante delicto (caught in the act) engaged in illegal fishing while the policemen led by Police Lieutenant Ronillo Romualdo, officer-in-charge of the Payao Municipal Police Station were on seaborne patrol.

He said seized from the two fishermen were a compressor with a 500-meter hose, a motorboat powered by the 16 horsepower engine and assorted fish.

He said the two arrested fishermen were placed under the custody of the Payao Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
