Asian Orthopedics-2014 completes elims sweep of SHAABAA Division C

The Asian Orthopedics-2014 ran through SABR Solutions Inc.-2018, 79-62, to complete a sweep of all their games in Division C of the 25th Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) on Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City.

With the playoffs set to start, Batch 2014 now has plenty of momentum on their side especially after they stormed back from an early deficit to put down Batch 2018. After a nip-and-tuck first half that saw Batch 2018 go up by two, 33-31, at halftime, 2014 asserted itself in the second half and outscored their opponents, 48-29, to come away with the lopsided victory.

Gio Laguyo led the way for 2014 with 19 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Jair Igna added 11. Popoy Navarro had an all-around performance of 10 points, 10 boards, six assists, and two steals, even as Lucky Ecarma produced 10 points, 13 boards, five dimes, and three steals.

In other Division C matches, the Carampatana Food Corp.-2012 kept in step with the leaders as they thumped the Storage Town-2015, 89-80, for their sixth win in seven matches.

Lorenzo Carampatana paced 2012 with 19 points on an efficient 5-of-8 shooting clip, while Dave Wilson Yu added 17 points, 18 boards, and nine assists. Alexter Tecson had 13 while Maverick Suarez pitched in a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. The team’s other big man, Julius Cadavis, also had a field day inside with nine points, 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

Meanwhile in Division A, the Xchange Forex-2000 continued their dominance over the field with a 79-51 rout of GEF Daikin 98-1998. Batch 2000 turned the jets on in the final period, outhustling their opponents to the tune of 29-11 to author the one-sided win.

Serg Al Go Bui had 29 points and 12 rebounds, Dave Ting added 19 points and six boards, while Joseph Lo had another double-double with 15 points and 16 boards to go with seven assists to help Batch 2000 move to a perfect 7-0.

AutoLAB-1999 also clobbered the Mandaue Eco Glass Inc.-1992, 71-49, to improve to 5-2. Mark Tam scored 16 points, while Alan Ong chipped in 15 for the winning side.

The Magis Medical Fund-1997 also moved to 5-2 following their 84-60 rout of the Speed Demon-1996. Roderick Mangubat had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Sy had 16 points and 14 boards for 1997. Walter Ong and Buck Sia chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Vivant Corenergy-1994 also crushed the Gaisano Capital/San Remigio Beach Club/KJO prints/Badbeat Sportswear-2002, 120-68, to improve to 4-2. Jacques Ian Lee had 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead 1994, while Joel Co had a triple-double of 19 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists.
