THREE individuals, including two minors, were arrested by police for allegedly stealing the earnings of a blind person while the latter was selling candles at the Muelle Osmeña or bridge in Lapu-Lapu City.

Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Public Information Officer Judith Besas told SunStar Cebu that it took about several hours after the suspects were caught by police for allegedly stealing the money of a certain Veronica in two separate instances, one of which occurred on Saturday, September 24, while the latest was on Sunday, September 25.

Besas said the minors who stole a collective amount of P630 were caught around 1:15 a.m. Monday, September 26, while the 18-year-old suspect, who acted as the leader, was arrested around 2:15 p.m.

She said the two minors were brought to the Home Care Center in Barangay Poblacion for proper intervention.

Besas said the suspects were also involved in other robbery incidents.

“Naa sad nay pending nga warrants pod ang kanang leader nila. Sakto ra jud niabot iyahang age of maturity mao tong pwede na siya kihaan,” she said.

The arrested 18-year-old suspect is currently detained at the Police Station 3 along Hoopsdome Rd. He is expected to face a case of robbery with force intimidation.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said he made sure that the suspects who stole the bag and money of a certain Veronica, who is considered a person with disability (PWD), will be caught and be held accountable.

Chan said he was saddened over the incident, wherein the suspects whom he said have no disabilities and with full strength, took advantage of Veronica.

“Wala intawon sila maikog nga taliwala sa iyang kahimtang nga dili siya makakita, naninguha gihapon si Veronica sa pagtrabaho og tinarong aron aduna siyay mabitbit nga makaon para sa iyang pamilya,” Chan said.

“Apan kining mga batan-on nga kompleto man unta og lawas ug tibuok pa ang kusog, wa man nuon nagtinarong sa ilang kinabuhi,” he added.

Besas said the incidents were reported to the police Monday but the victim initially reported it to Chan. (MKG)
