A FIELD commander of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) and five of his followers surrendered to government authorities in Maguindanao, the military reported Monday, September 26, 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Nadala, Jr., commander of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, said King Fahad, a field commander of the BIFF-Bungos faction, and five of his followers have surrendered to them on Saturday, September 24.

Nadala presented them to Colonel Oriel Pangcog, commander of the 601st Infantry Brigade at the brigade headquarters in Kamasi village, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

Pangcog said that immediate cash assistance was awarded to the BIFF surrenderers.

“Their documents will also be processed for enrollment in the reintegration program of the government,” he added.

The group of King Fahad handed over six high-powered firearms including one 5.56-millimeter (mm) M653 rifle, two caliber .30 Garand rifles, one caliber .50 Sniper rifle, and two 7.62-mm M14 rifles.

Meanwhile, Major General Roy Galido, commander of Joint Task Force Central, said the BIFFs saw that the government is sincerely implementing the reintegration program, hence, they were convinced to lay down their arms and return to the folds of the law.

Since January to September 19 this year, a total of 178 BIFF personalities surrendered to the military in Central Mindanao.

Of the number, 177 were regular members and one was a supporter of the BIFF. (SunStar Zamboanga)
