THE City Government of Naga, Cebu will provide financial assistance to families of the five members of the Bulacan City Risk Reduction Management Team who died in the line of duty during the onslaught of super typhoon Karding last Sunday night, September 25, 2022.

Mayor Valdemar Chiong told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, September 28, that it wouldn’t be much but they just wanted to help.

“Ang akong stand ana nga tanan gyud ang hatagan og assistance (My stand is that everyone should be given assistance)," he said.

He said they have yet to agree on the final amount, but the money will be taken from the budget of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

"At the very least we can give each family P20,000,” Chiong said in Cebuano.

In situations like these, the mayor said they usually assign one city councilor to personally deliver the cash aid to beneficiaries.

Two of the victims, Troy Justin Agustin and Jerson Resurreccion , were part of the contingent Bulacan sent to the City of Naga in September 2018 to assist in search and retrieval operations after the deadly landslide in Barangay Tina-an.

Agustin, Resurreccion, Narciso Calayag Jr., Marby Bartolome and George Agustin were killed when their boat was hit by a wall that collapsed during a rescue operation in Barangay Camias, San Miguel, Bulacan at the height of the super typhoon on Sunday night.
