SEVERAL areas in Davao City experienced flooding following heavy rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon weather on September 28, 2022.
The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that flooding was experienced at La Verna Subdivision in Buhangin, Sutherland in Jacinto Ext., J.P. Laurel - Downtown, Barangay Communal Purok 1, Purok San Miguel and Phase 4 Deca Homes, Barangay Indangan, Carpenter St., Barangay Leon Garcia, Purok Anahaw Santol St. in Buhangin Proper, Daffodil Street in Monclair Highlands, Villa Park Cabantian in Buhangin, San Antonio Compound, NHA Buhangin, and New San Isidro Buhangin.
CDRRMO said at 5:54 p.m. several streets were no longer passable to light vehicles (La Verna Subdivision, Purok 1, Brgy. Communal, Purok Anahaw Santol St., Buhangin Proper, and Villa Park Cabantian Buhangin) because of knee level water level. By 6:20 p.m. streets in NHA Buhangin, Daffodil Street in Monclair Highlands, and New Isidro Buhangin with above-waist water level. The flood waters subsided by 11:20 p.m.
CDRRMO reported that 11 individuals or two families were trapped due to street flooding in Daffodil Street in Montclair Highland, Buhangin Proper, and New San Isidro Buhangin. They were rescued by the Bureau of Fire- Special Rescue Force (BFP-SRF).
CDRRMO said no casualties were reported due to the flooding.
“There were no reported casualties as a result of street flooding and other relevant incidents caused by the Southwest Monsoon weather disturbance,” CDRRMO said.
Meanwhile, CDRRMO said the Safety and Response Cluster are advised to closely monitor the incident and address it with urgency and utmost attention. They also said that concerned offices should conduct a regular clearing in the area.
“CEO (City Engineer's Office), CENRO (City Environment & Natural Resources Office), ASU (Ancillary Services Unit) and the concerned barangays are likewise advised to conduct regular debris clearing on the frequently reported affected areas of flooding within their Area of Responsibility,” CDRRMO said.
