Deaths due to ‘Karding’ climb to 12; 6 missing

THE number of fatalities due to Super Typhoon Karding (Noru) has further increased to 12, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday, September 30, 2022.

In a situational report, the NDRRMC said the two latest reported fatalities were from Tanay, Rizal who both died from drowning.

The other fatalities, which were earlier confirmed, were from Bulacan, Zambales and Antipolo, Rizal.

The NDRRMC said six individuals, five in Mercedes, Camarines Norte and one in Patnanungan, Quezon, were still missing, while 52 individuals were injured due to the effects of Karding.

It said a total of 245,063 families or 911,404 persons were affected by the weather system in 1,759 barangays in Regions 1 (Ilocos), 2 (Cagayan), 3 (Central Luzon), 4A (Calabarzon), 4B (Mimaropa), 5 (Bicol) and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Over 46,000 persons or more than 9,000 families were displaced.

Infrastructure damage incurred due to the weather disturbance was pegged at P23,947,400.

The NDRRMC said 56,916 houses were either damaged or destroyed.

Damage to agriculture was estimated at P3,053,218,120, including 166,630.11 hectares of crop area particularly in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol and Cordillera.

The disaster bureau said a total of P36,566,330.95 worth of assistance have been provided to the affected individuals. (SunStar Philippines)
