GRUDGE is the angle being looked into by the policemen in Sagay why a former murder suspect was shot dead at the northern Negros Occidental city around 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Lieutenant Colonel Roberto Indiape said they do not have suspects yet in the killing of Razel Matarong, 44, of the city’s Barangay Maquiling yet as of Friday.

Indiape said that Matarong was driving his motorcycle on his way home along AE Marañon Street at the city’s Baranggay Poblacion 2 when the suspect who was also on a motorcycle shot him.

He said that while Matarong was already lying on the ground, the suspect’s companion alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim at close range several times.

Indiape added that Matarong succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds upon arrival at the Alfredo E. Maranon Memorial District Hospital.

Aside from Matarong, bystander Marilyn Mangulabnan, 56, of Purok 6 in the city’s Barangay Poblacion 1 was also hit by a stray bullet on her left foot, the police said.

Investigation showed that Matarong was accused of murder but his case was dismissed due to the failure of the victim’s relatives to attend the hearings.

“We are also validating information that he (Matarong) has other pending cases that have not been filed yet,” Indiape added.
