IN ITS bid to resolve the issue of resettlement, Bacolod City through Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez wants to construct 10,000 housing units for Informal Settler Families (ISFs) by next year.

Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Jose Rizalino “Jerry” Acuzar, who led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Yuhum Village at Arao Property in Barangay Vista Alegre, said the project is part of the “Pambansang Pabahay Para Sa Pilipino” program.

Acuzar reiterated that the program targets to build one million housing units per year or a total of six million housing units for six years in the country to achieve zero ISFs by 2028.

The groundbreaking ceremony was also attended by Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and the members of the City Council.

Acuzar said the Zero ISFs is one of the priority programs of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to build one million housing units per year or a total of six million housing units for six years in the country.

“The people of Bacolod should be happy with this program. It’s the program of President Marcos to address the information settlers in the country,” Acuzar stressed.

The beneficiaries of the program need to be members of the Pag-Ibig Fund, whose funds will be initially used to pump-prime the housing program.

For his part, Benitez said as long as they can comply with all the requirements from the national government, the city can finish the housing project by 2023 with a total P10-billion budget.

Aside from the three identified housing sites, Barangay Vista Alegre, Barangay 8, and Barangay Banago, he said the Bacolod Old-Airport is also part of the housing program.

He added they will prioritize the ISFs in the coastal areas.

Councilor Vladimir Gonzalez, chairperson of the city council committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, also said in Barangay Vista Alegre alone, which is composed of about six to seven hectares, the city will build at least 5,000 housing units and its construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2023, which will consist of three to five-story structures made of concrete modular houses.

He added each unit will be composed of 24.5 square meters and the beneficiaries will be using the Pag-Ibig Funds to avail the program.

Gonzalez disclosed that the Bacolod Housing Authority already started the qualification process for the beneficiaries of the program, especially those who are living in the danger zone and coastal areas.
