THE Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has lifted its warning to the public against buying a well-known whitening lotion.
On Sept. 30, 2022, the FDA lifted its earlier advisory warning the public against buying and using Silka Premium Papaya Whitening Lotion SPF 30.
In a letter to Leah Castillo of Cosmetique Asia Corporation, the makers of the lotion, Engr. Ana Trinidad Rivera of FDA's Center for Cosmetics and Household Urban Hazardous Substances Regulation and Research, said it has lifted its advisory against Silka Papaya Whitening Lotion SPF 30 after its manufacturer was able to provide documents that show that the product has already complied with FDA's existing rules, regulations and standards.
"In view of the foregoing, the warning against the purchase and use of the product Silka Premium Papaya Whitening Lotion SPF 30 as mentioned in FDA Advisory No. 2022-1640 and its corresponding FDA Order is hereby lifted," the order added.
THE FDA issued Advisory 2022-1640 on Sept. 22, warning the public against buying and using Silka Premium Papaya Whitening Lotion SPF 30 after it was found that the product was being sold without a valid Certificate of Product Notification from the agency. This means the FDA cannot ensure the quality and safety of the product and may even pose some health risk to the consumer. (JKV)
