Post-Karding rehab starts

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO The Department of Public Works and Highway Region III (DPWH-3) ordered the prioritization of repair of public infrastructures that were damaged by typhoon “Karding”.

This, after DPWH-3 Director Roseller Tolentino saw the extent of damages left by the recent typhoon to infrastructures in the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and Pampanga.

He led the monitoring and assessment operation immediately after the onslaught of the typhoon.

He checked on the structural integrity of the public infrastructures under their jurisdiction to ensure the safety of people.

“Our District Engineering Offices and Area and Equipment Sections throughout the region immediately inspected public infrastructures and conducted round-the-clock road clearing operations to ensure that all national roads within of our jurisdiction will remain passable to motorists,” he said.

Based on the report of DPWH-Regional Maintenance Division, the total infrastructure damage caused by typhoon “Karding” have reached P545.88-million as of September 28.

National roads connecting the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan were among the heavily-damaged by the recent typhoon.

The portion of Baliwag-Candaba-Sta. Ana Road in Barangay San Agustin in Candaba became impassable due to flooding.

The Candaba-San Miguel Road, and the Mancatian Bridge along Angeles-Porac-Floridablanca Dinalupihan Road also sustained damages.

In Nueva Ecija, the approaches of the Bugnan Overflow Bridge in Gabaldon town were damaged by the typhoon.

Isolated by the Pampanga River, the bridge is the lone access way of Barangay Bugnan residents going to and from its neighboring villages.

Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Trinidad said they immediately deployed survey team which conducted a post-calamity assessment on the said local bridge.

“Based on their initial assessment, around 70 meters of the approach on the Bugnan side was scoured while approximately 30 meters of the embankment at the other side of the overflow bridge was damaged,” Trinidad said.

The Nueva Ecija Area Equipment Section deployed 2 units each of dump trucks and excavators and has fully restored the damaged approaches as of October 2.

Tolentino assured that the district engineering offices are working double time to rehabilitate all public structures damaged by the typhoon.
