UNIVERSITY of the Philippines (UP) Professor of Mathematics Dr. Guido David said on Monday, October 3, 2022, that having 433 winning bettors in a single lotto draw is “highly unusual” but not completely impossible.

David said the probability of having 433 winning bettors in a single lotto draw is one out of one followed by 1224 zeros.

He noted that the probability of winning the 6/55 Grand Lotto jackpot is one in nearly 29 million, which means that there were also nearly 29 million possible combinations of numbers from six to 55.

“There are some circumstances that may increase the probability of this happening. The fact that the winning combination is a nice mathematical combination consisting of multiples of nine, compared to a combination with no pattern, may make it more likely someone would bet on such a combination,” said David.

David was referring to the winning combination 09-45-36-27-18-54 during Saturday’s draw.

A total of 433 bettors hit the winning combination with a jackpot prize of P236,091,188.40.

Opposition senators Koko Pimentel and Risa Hontiveros earlier mulled the conduct of inquiry to ensure the credibility of the game led by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).

PCSO General Manager Mel Robles earlier maintained that there was no irregularity and that what happened was a “natural occurrence.” (SunStar Philippines)
