UP 18 kilos of substance believed to be shabu worth P122.4 million were confiscated in an anti-illegal drug operation on Monday noon, October 3, 2022, in Holy Family Road, Barangay Busay, Cebu City.

The operatives of the Special Operations Unit (SOU) from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Drug Enforcement Group Regional Field Unit 7 conducted the anti-illegal drug operation.

They, however, were not able to arrest the suspect, who immediately left aboard a habal-habal motorcycle after sensing that he was transacting with the police, leaving behind the Toyota Innova car color maroon with no plate number.

But the drug suspect already handed the two kilos of “shabu” to a poseur-buyer before he fled toward Barangay Lahug.

Upon further inspection, the police also found 16 large packs of “shabu” weighing a kilo each from inside the car.

According to SOU official who refused to be named, the source of the drug haul is a big-time drug lord inside the jail believed to be member of a drug syndicate that operates in the Central Visayas.

He refused, however, to reveal the name of the source pending their follow-up operation.

The police are also tracing the owner of the abandoned Innova vehicle at the Land Transportation Office.

“Nagtuo mi nga naa pa siyay lain nga kauban katong driver. Pagka hibawo niya nga police, kalit lang siya misakay sa motor palayo. Wala na nato maabti pa,” said the SOU official.

(We believe that the car driver has other cohorts. When he recognized the police, he suddenly rode a motorcycle and we did not catch him anymore).

The police believed that the illegal drugs came from Luzon based on the way these were packed.

The police said they have long been monitoring the illegal drug activities of the suspect prior to the buy-bust operation.

On Sunday dawn, October 2, more than two kilos of shabu worth P13 million were also seized by operatives of Parian Police Station during a buy-bust in Barangay Lorega, San Miguel, Cebu City.

The Cebu City Police Office are now identifying the source of illegal drugs that they confiscated and that of the SOU. (AYB, BBT, TPT)
