THE Land Transportation Office- Davao Region (LTO-Davao) has penalized the Tagum City-based social media influencer who did the “Ligo Challenge.”
“It was resolved, gi-penalized nato siya og illegal change of color kay katong iyahang sakyanan gigamit wala to na-process ang color ato, charged of not wearing helmet plus reckless offense, a total of five points ang iyahang demerits (we penalized her for illegally changing the color of her vehicle. She will also be charged for not wearing a helmet and reckless offense. She will receive a total of five points demerits)” Neil Cañedo, Regional Director of LTO-Davao, said in an interview with the SunStar Davao on October 3, 2022.
Cañedo said the social media influencer also underwent a 15-hour re-orientation seminar and paid a fine of P18,000.
“[We told her] next time magbuhat pa ka ana (if she will do it again) then we will make a necessary resolution to revoke your license,” Cañedo said.
On August 23, 2022, the LTO-Davao received a report from the Highway Patrol Group- Davao Region (HPG-Davao) about a social media influencer doing the “Ligo Challenge” trend. The LTO also sent their team to Tagum City to probe the social media influencer.
The “Ligo Challenge” is an online trend where one is challenged to take a bath but with a twist. In the case of the social media influencer, she was challenged to take a bath while driving her motorcycle.
Cañedo said that the social media influencer cooperated with them and promised to advocate the importance of following traffic rules.
“Ni-promise man pud siya nga (She promised that) ‘sir sukad karun, after aning seminar namo, na among nasabtan nga motabang pud mi sa gobyerno (after this seminar, we will also help the government), we will influence the others to follow the rules,’” Cañedo said. KSD
