THE Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has allowed the release of over a billion worth of funds for the payment of the special risk allowance (SRA) of health workers involved in Covid-19 response.

Under the Special Allotment Release Order issued by the DBM on October 3, 2022, 55,211 eligible health workers will receive grants amounting to P5,000 for each month of service while the country is under state of national emergency.

Qualified health workers refer to medical, allied medical, and other personnel assigned in hospitals and health care facilities and who are directly attending to patients with Covid-19, persons under investigation (PUIs) or persons under monitoring (PUMs).

The payment of SRA is in accordance with Republic Act (RA) 11494, known as the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, and Administrative Order 36 issued by former President Rodrigo Duterte on November 20, 2020.

The funds will be released to the Department of Health.

The DBM said it is continuously coordinating with the DOH for the payment of health workers’ additional benefits amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Health workers are continuously complaining about the delay of the release of funds mandated by the law amid the country’s fight against Covid-19. (SunStar Philippines)
