A DAVAO City councilor is proposing to further reduce the speed limit along Diversion Road in a bid to avoid vehicular accidents.

Councilor Conrado Baluran, Committee chair for Transportation and Communications, said in an interview on October 4, 2022 that he will be proposing to reduce the speed limit along the Diversion Road from 60 kilometers per hour (kph) to 30 to 40 kph.

He noted how accidents are quite common along one of the busiest roads in the city. The Diversion Road connects the northern part of the city to the southern part. Several motorists and trucks transporting goods use the road to avoid passing through the central downtown area of the city.

Baluran said vehicular accidents happening along diversion road is the main consideration for setting the speed limit in the area. For example, there have been incidents where trucks experience mechanical failure and the driver loses control of the truck.

Meanwhile, he will also be proposing a truck lane for big trucks.

“Didto na sila mag-agi, kay usahay man gud makig-gukdanay sa mga gagmay sakyanan ba, mura pud ni silag mga racing cars (They will drive on that lane because what we have observed right now is these big trucks are driving side by side smaller cars),” Baluran said.

Baluran said reducing the speed limit will help ensure the safety of the Dabawenyos along the road.

“Mao na nga atong gibantayan nga atoang mga katawhan sa syudad sa Dabaw kanunay maprotektahan ug di mabiktima sa mga drivers nga nagadali, dili ta motawag sa ilaha nga abusive, pero naga-take advantage nga mga drivers (This is what we are looking into right – protecting the residents of the city and ensure that they are not victims of drivers who may not be mindful of those on road),” Baluran said.
