IN celebration of World Teacher’s Day, the Department of Education (DepEd) will give an incentive worth P1,000 to all the public school teachers in the country.

“Tanang magtutudlo ugmang adlawa (October 5) naay madawat nga P1,000 sa tibook nasod sa Pilipinas (All public school teachers nationwide will receive P1,000 tomorrow), kada usa kanamo makadawat isip pahalipay para sa World Teachers Day (this will serve as an incentive for each of you),” Jenielito Atillo, DepEd Davao Region spokesperson, said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on October 4, 2022.

Atillo said a special event dedicated to teachers will also be organized.

“We have decided nga magtagbo ta sa usa ka establisyemento dinhe sa dakbayan sa Davao (that we will hold an event here in Davao) and then we will provide some sort of amusement activities sa atoang mga mangtutudlo pero dili ni tanan (for teachers who will be attending the event),” Atillo said.

He also reminded the public that World Teachers Day is not a holiday.

“Biskan pa man naa tay dakong selebrasyon (Although we have a celebration), magpabilin pa gihapon nga ang atong responsibilidad sa pagtudlo sa mga kabataan padayon gihapon ang mga klase (we will still have a class because this is part of our responsibility as teachers),” Atillo said.

In 2021, DepEd announced that former President Rodrigo Duterte approved the World Teachers’ Day Incentive Benefit (WTDIB) amounting to P1,000 per public school teacher.

Meanwhile, Atillo said that this year about 1,000,000 teachers, an increase from the more than 900,000 teachers who received an incentive from last year’s celebration, will receive the P1,000 incentive. KSD
