Cops nab 1, seize over P1-M smuggled cigarettes

POLICEMEN arrested one person and seized more than P1 million worth of contrabands in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Thursday, October 13, 2022.

Police Brigadier General Neil Alinsañgan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested person as Danilo Vidad, 32, a resident of Lunzuran village, Zamboanga City.

Alinsañgan said Vidad was arrested in the act of loading smuggled cigarettes into a vehicle around 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, in Purok Kumirap, Dimasangca village, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

He said seized from Vidad were 30 master cases of smuggled cigarettes worth P1,050,000, a cellular phone, and a sports utility vehicle.

Alinsañgan said the police from Labangan launched an anti-smuggling operation following receipt of report smuggled cigarettes are being loaded by two unidentified persons into a vehicle in Purok Kumirap, Dimasangca village.

He said Vidad’s companion, a certain Elmer, eluded arrest as he fled upon sensing the arrival of policemen.

Alinsañgan said Vidad, the vehicle and the smuggled cigarettes were placed under the custody of the Labangan police. (SunStar Zamboanga)
