ANIMALS confined at the city pound only have three days to be claimed, said Dr. Gay Pallar, chief of the Animal Husbandry and Disease Control Division of the City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) on October 12.

Pallar said owners only have three days before the impounded animals will be subject to euthanasia or mercy killing.

In order to release the animals, owners would have to pay P500 for the impounding fee and P50 for the succeeding days until the animals are claimed.

“We conduct overdose on anesthesia, so ginapatulog,” Pallar said during an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio.

Pallar reminds the public that based on City Ordinance No. 1457, the CVO shall only impound stray dogs or animals loitering the streets without a leash. They are not prioritizing requests from people who want to get rid of their pets.

“Daghan kaayo nagapanawag na dili na sila ganahan o tigulang na ilang iro so ilang ginapakuha (Many residents are calling our office saying they want to get rid of their pets),” she said.

Meanwhile, the chief said the CVO has proposed a crematorium facility in order to cremate the animals that underwent mercy killing.

Pallar said they already have the facility in the new location of the city pound in Brgy. Malagos, and they are only waiting for the approval of the crematorium machine.

“Ato na silang i-cremate if naa na ang machine pero karon wala pa man, ilubong sa sila (We will cremate them once the machine arrives but in the mean time, we will bury them),” Pallar said. ICM
