Bornea faces the younger brother of world champ Inoue

JAKE Bornea returns after a long layoff and takes on former interim World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight champion Takuma Inoue on Dec. 13 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Bornea is back after not seeing action for almost two years. He last fought on March 17, 2021, wherein he settled to a technical draw with Nicardo Calamba.

Bornea is a former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Youth flyweight champion. He won the title in 2015 after knocking out Richard Rosales in four rounds.

Bornea has also fought the likes of Andrew Selby and Raymond Tabugon.

Takuma is the younger brother of Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, who’ll be fighting in the main event in a world title unification bout with Paul Butler.

Takuma won the interim WBC bantamweight belt with a unanimous decision over Thai star Tasana Salapat in 2018. He earned a title shot against then-WBC bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali the following year. Takuma, however, failed in his bid and lost by unanimous decision.

Takuma bounced back and won the next three fights against Keita Kurihara, Shingo Wake and Gakuya Furuhashi.

Takuma is ranked No. 2 by the World Boxing Association (WBA) and No. 3 by the WBC as a bantamweight, No. 5 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 6 by the WBO as a super bantamweight.

Bornea is 14-3-1 with seven knockouts, Takuma is 16-1 with three knockouts.
