Militiaman killed in gun attack

A MILITIAMAN was killed in a gun attack by riding-in-tandem gunmen in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, October 17, 2022.

Police Colonel Eduard Mallo, Zamboanga Sibugay police officer-in-charge, identified the victim as Carlito Bastillada Jr., 34, a resident of Camanga village, Titay.

Mallo said that the incident happened around 5:55 a.m. Sunday, October 16, in Moalboal, Titay, Zamboanga Sibugay.

He said prior to the incident, Bastillada and his friends had a drinking spree near the Rotonda in downtown Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Mallo said while Bastillada and his friends were on the way home, suddenly the riding in tandem tailing them opened fire hitting the militiaman.

Bastillada was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the attending physician. The suspects fled towards the direction of Ipil town.

Recovered from the crime scene were two empty shells of caliber .45 pistol.

Mallo said the investigation continues to establish the motive as well as the identities of the riding in tandem suspects. (SunStar Zamboanga)
