Dabawenyos were treated to a night of music, dance, and a whole lot of fun by Filipino pop group sensation SB19 during their WYAT concert at SMX Convention Center in Davao City on Saturday night, October 15.
The group, composed of members Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken, and Justin sang nationwide hits including What?, Bazinga, MAPA, and their latest comeback WYAT (Where You At) - which signals a new era for the group, starting with headlining a world tour.
During the concert in Davao City, A’tin - the official name for fans of SB19 - had a good laugh watching the group’s antics in between the songs.
With the help of Ken who speaks Bisaya and hails from Mindanao, the members staged a charade where they act out and guess different Davao icons such as the durian fruit and Mt. Apo.
Although it isn’t SB19’s first show in Davao City, lead rapper Josh said it feels like their first time again because the group’s last visit to Davao City was in 2019.
“Parang first time ulit ang feeling kasi before pandemic nung pumunta kami dito and ngayon bumalik kami, stronger (It feels like the first time again because the last time we were here was before the pandemic and now we are feeling stonger). We’re so excited to see everyone and experience the cheers of the fans,” he said during the media conference on October 14.
Main vocalist Stell added, “Parang nostalgic feeling (because) before noong wala pa ang pandemic, nakapunta na kami dito to perform and now magkakasama ulit kami to perform in front of them.”
When asked what they most look forward to doing in the King City of the South, some of the members answered by eating durian and mangosteen but vocalist and creative director Justin said he would love to see the local wildlife.
“Para makakita po kami ng Philippine Eagle (So hopefully we could see the Philippine Eagle),” Justin said enthusiastically.
Davao City is SB19’s last stop in the Philippine leg of their WYAT World Tour before they head internationally to other countries including the United States, United Arab Emirates, and Singapore.
“Habang papalapit ang international tour, medyo nagiging anxious kami and nervous pero most importantly, excited kami ma-meet ang fans from other countries (As the international tour draws near, we’re getting a little anxious and nervous but most importantly we’re excited to meet the fans from other countries). Gusto namin ibigay sa kanila ang best performance na maipapakita namin (We want to give them the best performance),” leader and main rapper Pablo said.
To close the magical night in Davao, SB19 interacted with the audience and signed numerous posters, albums, and merchandise, leaving the fans with an unforgettable experience they will cherish for years. ICM
