PHILIPPINE Statistics Authority Davao Region (PSA-Davao) reminds banks and other establishments to accept the national ID for transactions or else they could be penalized.

“Just for the information of everybody, pwede pong kasuhan yong hindi mag-accept ng Phil ID (a case can be filed against you if you will not accept the Phil ID). We encourage the government agencies, and private institution partners, please accept it,” Baby Jean Alid, PhilSys (Philippine Identification System) Focal Person, PSA- Davao, said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw on October 17, 2022.

Alid said that the main reason why banks and other establishments will not accept the national ID is due to the missing signature in the card.

“Sinasadya po iyon, wala talagang perma para hindi po ma-forge yong signature (It was intended to protect and avoid forgery of the holder’s signature),” Alid said.

Alid said that the national ID can be verified through their verification site if the banks or establishments have doubts about its authenticity.

“We have means of verification online if that ID is inissue talaga ng PSA, check po natin, you can scan the QR code (to verify if it was released by PSA, you can always check it through scanning the QR code),” Alid said.

According to Section 19, Republic Act 11055, establishments that refused to accept the national ID as valid proof of identity will be subject to a fine of an appropriate amount of P500,000.

Meanwhile, Alid said about 3.9 million Dabawenyos in Davao Region have been registered in the PhilSys and a total of 75 million in the whole country.

She added that while waiting for the physical ID, Dabawenyos can access its virtual version.

“We can print your ID, pwede ni siya i-laminate (you can laminate it), this is part of the proactive strategy of PSA so that our registrant can immediately enjoy the benefit of being registered in PhilSys po,” Alid said. KSD
