Garces, Pagara headline Talisay show

KIT Ceron Garces and returning Albert Pagara headline a boxing show on Nov. 5 at the Talisay Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Garces faces fellow up-and-comer Ian Donaire for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Australasian flyweight strap in the main event. Garces just made his pro debut last year, but now his career is being fast-tracked as he will be fighting for a belt for the first time in just his fifth fight.

Garces is coming off a first round technical knockout of Briel Ozaraga on Sept. 3 in Mandaue City.

Donaire, on the other hand, hasn’t fought for three years. He last saw action on Oct. 26, 2019, in which he knocked out Armando Yee in two rounds.

Garces is 4-0 with four knockouts, while Donaire is 4-1-1 with three knockouts.

Meanwhile, Pagara ends a two-year layoff and trades leathers with Allan Villanueva in a 140-pound fight.

Pagara was once considered as one of the future stars of Philippine boxing. However, he hasn’t lived up to everyone’s expectations. He hopes to revive his boxing career and return to the world-class level. At 28 years old, Pagara still has time left to become a world champion.

Pagara last fought in 2020 and beat Virgil Puton by unanimous decision.

In 2016, Pagara was closing in on a world title shot, but his world title hopes were derailed by Cesar Juarez, who knocked him out in eight rounds.

In the meantime, Villanueva is eager to end a three-fight losing slump. He lost to Al Toyogon, Tomjune Mangubat and Carlo Bacaro in his last three fights.

Pagara is 33-1 with 23 knockouts, while Villanueva is 11-3 with eight knockouts.
