Marcos orders suspension of Bucor chief

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has ordered the preventive suspension of Bureau of Corrections (Bucor) Gerald Bantag to ensure the impartiality of the investigation into the death of the inmate who allegedly facilitated the killing of veteran radio broadcaster Percy Lapid, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said on Friday, October 21, 2022.

Remulla said he updated Marcos on the case on Thursday evening.

“I went to the President to tell him about this... he asked me to preventively suspend Undersecretary, Director General Bantag of Bucor, so that there may be a fair and impartial investigation on the matter,” he said in a press conference.

Remulla said former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gregorio Catapang Jr. will serve as the officer-in-charge of Bucor. (SunStar Philippines)
