A SURVEY conducted by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) showed that Dabawenyos gave a high trust rating to the Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO-Davao).

Survey results show that PRO-Davao received a trust rating of 91 percent. It also received a rating of 92 percent under the safety index and 90 percent for the respect index.

“We take pride dito sa (to the) result, in fact 'cum laude' kami pagdating sa rating ng trust, respect and safety (in fact we are the 'cum laude' when it comes to the trust, respect and safety rating),” Major Atty. Eudisan Gultiano, spokesperson of PRO-Davao, said during the AFP-PNP Press Conference on October 19, 2022.

However, Gultiano said they received a low trust rating from the 18-30 years old age group.

“Kasi itong mga 18-30 years old ito yong usually na nadadala sa some of the issues, more on mataas natin mga above age ng 18-30 years old, nararamdaman talaga nila yong safety and ‘yong trust (These 18-30 years old respondents are usually those who can be influenced and affected with the issues, so most of those who gave us a high rating are those above 18-30 years old, they said they feel secure and trust us),” Gultiano said.

She clarified respondents are Dabawenyos and not uniformed personnel.

“Very scientific ang survey, at research ng MinDA, at hindi po mga pulis ang sumagot dyan ha, mga citizen of Davao Region (The survey conducted by Minda was scientific and the respondents are citizens of Davao Region),” Gultiano said.

She added that only 18 years old and above were the respondents of the survey.

According to PRO-Davao, the positive outcome of the survey shows that Dabawenyos have a favorable opinion in the agency with the sense of security they provided, which also boosted the confidence of their personnel.

Gultiano said their biggest challenge now is how to maintain this high trust rating and exceed the previous result.

“We are always reminding our police officers as to ‘yong treatment sa public. Nakita namin doon sa survey na kung may respect ang tao sa pulis, it follows din yung trust nila sa ating personnel (We found out through the survey that if people respect the policemen, they will also trust us in return). That is why we are always reminding our people as to the way they treat the public in implementing the law,” Gultiano said. KSD
