City Enterprise to rehab other public cemeteries

THE City Economic Enterprise (CEE) eyes rehabilitating the existing public cemeteries in Davao City, according to

office head Mackie Macalipes on Thursday, October 20.

Macalipes said the Tagakpan Public Cemetery is currently in Phase 2 of the rehabilitation, which included road improvements near the cemetery but it is still open for the public as there are still burials to be conducted.

“Gipaayo na pud namo ang mga dalan, gitabangan na mi sa City Engineers Office para mag aspalto sa mga dalan og ayos ang adtuon sa atong mga bisitahay na muadto didto (We made repairs and asphalting of roads with the help of the City Engineers Office),” Macalipes said during a radio interview.

After the rehabilitation of the Tagakpan cemetery, Macalipes said they want to rehabilitate the other cemeteries as well, along with continuing the improvements at the Wireless Public Cemetery.

“(The Wireless cemetery) mao na gyod ang standard nato unta na mapabuhat sa lain pa na cemetery (We plan to make the Wireless cemetery the standard for the rehabilitation of all the other public cemeteries),” he said, referring to the cemetery’s compartmentalized niches.

Aside from rehabilitations, the CEE mentioned the system digitalization among the public cemeteries in the city, which is the Public Cemetery Management Information System.

“Pwede namo makitan dayon sa system kung magpalubong sila, nakabayad na sa lease nga P2,200, then i-print dayon namo ang lease contract so wala na dili matagaan og lease contract ang atong mga clients (We would immediately see the transactions of our clients and give them their lease of contract for the cemetery as soon as possible),” he said.

Davao City currently operates ten public cemeteries, namely the Wireless Public Cemetery. The Panacan cemetery, Tibungco cemetery, Muslim and Christian cemetery in Maa, Mintal cemetery, Bunawan cemetery, Lubugan cemetery, Calinan cemetery, Tugbok cemetery and Tagakpan cemetery.

Macalipes said they are working on earning more revenues to be used as the operating budget for the planned future rehabilitation of these cemeteries. ICM
