‘Drug-selling couple’ gunned down in Quiot

A 42-YEAR-OLD man and his common-law wife were gunned down on a secluded area in Upper Greenbelt in Barangay Quiot, Cebu City on Friday morning, Oct. 21, 2022.

James Jimenez, 42, and his live-in partner, Pinky Jane Cediño, 25, were found by police with gunshot wounds on their heads.

Maj. Janelito Marquez, chief of the Labangon Police Station, told SunStar Cebu that Raymond Satera, a resident in the area, initially found the bodies of the two victims.

Satera told police that he was looking for a place to relieve himself when he found the bodies.

He immediately ran back to his sitio and called his neighbors to inform them of what he had found.

Police eventually got to the crime scene at around 1 p.m. on the same day.

Ties to illegal drugs

Marquez told reporters that based on their initial investigation, they found that Jimenez and Cediño were allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.

He believes that illegal drugs may have been a possible motive for the couple’s murder as they found out that Jimenez and Cediño were reportedly small-time drug dealers who were being sought by some dealers for failure to remit the proceeds of their illegal trade.

Aileen Cediño, Cediño’s mother, confirmed to police that her daughter and Jimenez were involved in the illegal drug trade.

Aileen told SunStar Cebu that she had told her daughter to stop selling drugs after the latter was jailed before for drug selling.

Aileen said her daughter had not returned home ever since she entered the illegal drug trade and had been involved with other lovers before meeting Jimenez.

Aileen even told police that she had been visited by some of her daughter’s fellow dealers who had been looking for her and Jimenez for failure to remit their illegal drug trade proceeds.

Marquez believes that Jimenez and Cediño were meeting with the suspect to conduct an illegal drug transaction just before they were gunned down.

Recovered from the crime scene were three empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol, Jimenez’s cellphone, a bunch of keys, receipts and an undisclosed amount of money. (GPL / JKV)
