TWO persons landed in jail after they ransacked a motorcycle owned by a policeman in Cortes town, Bohol around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Paterno Arbetrario Jr. of Cortes Police Station handcuffed the suspects Joseph Ibañez, 20, of Barangay Poblacion, Catigbian town and John Velasquez, 19, of AB Aumentado Street, Tagbilaran City, after catching them in the act of stealing his belongings from the u-box of his motorcycle.

Arbetrario, however, recovered his cellphone, wallet containing cash and police ID.

Arbetrario parked his motorcycle outside the Cortes gymnasium in barangay Poblacion, where a program was held in line with the 253rd founding anniversary of the municipality.

He and fellow policemen were deployed in the area to provide security, while the two suspects were also busy ransacking his motorcycle.

Staff Sergeant Gregorio Bayocot of Cortes Police Station, case investigator, said the suspects owned up to their mistakes and admitted responsibility for the series of incidents involving the ransacking of motorcycles that took place in the area.

During a follow-up operation, the town’s policemen recovered 15 more cellphones, believed to be stolen items, from the suspects.

The police believed that the cellphones that they recovered were only the ones left as the suspects had already pawned or sold the others. (BBT, TPT)
