2 road accidents in 2 days claim lives of 5 persons

TWO persons were killed when a wing van rear ended a tricycle in Sitio Lamac, Barangay Don G. Antigua in the northern town of Borbon, Cebu, on Saturday morning, October 22, 2022.

The victims were identified as Walter Dahunan Sipalay, the 33-year-old tricycle driver, and his passenger, 48-year-old Juanalyn Miñoza Tubo.

Tubo’s live-in partner, Anecito Derder Badayos, 54, is alive, but doctors described his chances of survival as 50-50.

The three are residents of Barangay Bagtik, San Remigio.

According to Staff Sergeant Raffy Tejares of the Borbon Police Station, the driver of the wing van, Elmer Buenaagua, a resident of Barangay Calamba, Laguna, surrendered to the police.

Tejares said Buenaagua was on his way to Mandaue City to deliver parcels from the National Capital Region when the accident happened around 8:50 a.m.

He said Sipalay’s tricycle suddenly made a left turn, which caught Buenaagua off guard. His wing van hit the tricycle and pinned Sipalay. Tubo and Badayos were thrown by the impact, which resulted in Tubo hitting her head on the pavement.

Sipalay and Tubo were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, Buenaagua was detained while waiting for the victims’ relatives to press charges.

On Friday afternoon, October 21, three persons were killed when a motorcycle slammed into another motorcycle in Barangay Union, San Francisco in the Camotes Islands, Cebu.

According to Major Jude Cebrero, chief of the San Francisco Police Station, cousins Jonel Donairez, 35, and Florentino Sampan, 45, were reportedly drunk when they hit the motorcycle driven by Antonio Francisco, 57, at 5:15 p.m.

The high-impact crash caused severe head and body injuries on all three persons.

Francisco, a resident of Barangay Esperanza, and Donairez and Sampan, both residents of Barangay Campo in the same town, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
