Oro 8th most competitive highly urbanized city in PH

CAGAYAN de Oro has once again made it to the list of Top 10 Most Competitive Highly Urbanized Cities in the Philippines in 2022, ranking eighth based on the results of the 10th Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Summit held on October 20, 2022, at the Philippine International Convention Center.

In the Most Competitive Highly Urbanized Cities category, the city ranked eighth in infrastructure, number four in resiliency, number seven in government efficiency, and number six in innovation.

Cagayan de Oro had consistently been among the top 10 competitive highly urbanized cities in the country since 2013.

In 2021, the city was placed seventh in the ranking.

The other cities that made it to the top 10 list are Quezon, Manila, Pasay, Davao, Muntinlupa, Makati, Iloilo, Bacolod and Valenzuela.

The Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Summit encourages all local government units to measure their performance by submitting their data and be ranked among the participating cities and municipalities through the Department of Trade and Industry and the Regional Competitiveness Committees with the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAid).

This year's Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index Summit is anchored on the theme “A Decade of Excellence: Championing Innovation to Sustain Competitiveness.”

The selection of the overall ranking is based on the five pillars: Resiliency, Infrastructure, Government Efficiency, Economic Dynamism, and the newly added Innovation Pillar.

The Innovation Pillar highlights the capacity of local government units to expand their local economies, strengthen innovation policies, and explore new technologies. (SunStar Philippines)
